Called to Radiate

“A Christian is never bored or sad. Rather, the one who loves Christ is full of joy and radiates joy.” - Pope Francis

Why did we create “Radiate LA?” Because that’s the goal of our lives—to radiate the love of Jesus so much so that everyone around us will be attracted to the light. We want people to ask us, “What is the secret to your joy?” We want people to want to radiate with us.

When people ask, we can use words to tell them about Jesus, and about what he has done for us, in his life and in his death on the cross. This is when we can give our testimony, and share how Christ has saved us from sin and death. But the only way that people will be convinced by our words is if they are matched in our actions. When our lives are beautiful, others will be inspired to live like us!

Across time we see the truth of this in holy writings. In 1975, Pope Paul IV wrote, “Modern man listens more willingly to witnesses than to teachers, and if he does listen to teachers, it is because they are witnesses” (Evangelii Nuntiandi 67).

And in 2012, Archbishop Jose Gomez of Los Angeles wrote, “Our world will return to God—but not by way of words and programs, no matter how eloquent or well conceived. Our world will return to God only by way of witnesses—by way of men and women who testify by the example of their lives that Jesus Christ is real and that his Gospel is the path to true happiness. Jesus is calling us to be those witnesses, my brothers and sisters” (Witness to the New World of Faith 15).

These two holy men teach us that only when you and I are radiating the love of Christ in our joyful lives will we draw others to us, and encourage them to learn the reason for our joy and hope. When we do witness with words about Christ and his Church, we want to follow St. Peter, who tells us to “always be ready to give an explanation to anyone who asks you for a reason for your hope, but do it with gentleness and reverence” (1 Peter 3:15).

In the book of Deuteronomy, Moses told the Israelites to “Love the Lord your God with all your heart and with all your soul and with all your strength” (Deuteronomy 6:5). Once we have encountered God’s love, we can begin to display his radiance. This website focus on three areas in which we can experience the merciful love of our Lord for ourselves, and bring us all to a deeper love of God with our hearts through prayer, with our minds through learning, and with our strength through good works.

What’s your goal in life? Beyond a career or accomplishment, what type of person do you hope to be? Do you want to be someone who walks through life being angry, stressed and sad? Or someone who radiates joy, peace, beauty and love? The choice is up to you, and Radiate LA is here to give you the tools to cultivate the goodness you have within you. The goodness we were all made to radiate.
